Today's Theme- New

Well it seems lately that my life has been full of all kinds of New. New job (well not super new now but definitely a change), new shops, new products, new ideas, new stress, and new...well you get the idea NEW NEW NEW! So, I figure I'll take this update one new thing at a time and see how it goes. Excited yet? You should be! Well, maybe, at least a little bit......no? Nothing? Aww come on at least pretend..=^.^=

Anywho, as I've mentioned in previous updates I work at a daycare. As much as I love it, it's actually fairly new to me. I've always loved taking care of children I just hadn't made the career change because I was worried about the pay-cut I'd have to take to do it. In the end it was totally and completely worth it. Now I go to work everyday and love what I do (even on the crazy days) instead of waking up and wishing I didn't have to go. Children are truly amazing and inspiring little people. Not only do they bring me joy everyday but they inspire me to create which for me is a fantastic bonus! Since I've started I've created a brand new item The Boogie Catcher-
Which I absolutely LOVE to use. It means that I can wipe a nose, throw a tissue away and sanitize my hands quickly and get back to what I was doing with the kids. But you can always read more about it on my Etsy shop. :) I've also discovered how much fun it is to make bows!
I haven't ventured to much into making bows that look like lady bugs or other creatures but I'm having a lot of fun playing with different cute ribbons, buttons, appliques and clips. I've also decided to try my hand at making headbands.
The first one I made is an infant size one so I didn't make it one that you could switch the bows out on because I wanted to keep the weight down since it's for infants. I'll be adding some for toddlers that are interchangeable soon. Well as soon as my hectic life permits that is lol.

Speaking of hectic schedules, that's another thing that's new in my life right now. I just recently started classes in the evenings again so I'm even busier than I had been. This semester is a shorter one than usual which is nice but I'm also taking a math class, and math is definitely not my best subject. I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't so darn time consuming! In fact, I should probably be working on it right now but I really need to take a breather from it for a bit. Along with my math class I'm also taking Human Development which I'm really looking forward to (doesn't start until June 6) not only because it's in my major but it also counts as my in-service for work.

While we're talking about new things I might as well mention that I've had my shop accepted on 1000markets.com. 1000 Markets is similar to Etsy but it is juried so there are fewer not so great shops to search through when you're looking for something. I think it's a great idea, and it makes me feel a little less like I'm going to get lost in a giant sea of sellers. You should definitely check it out whether you buy or sell handmade.
1000 Markets I plan on doing a review of my experience with 1000 Markets once I've given it a try for a while so keep an eye out for that!

Well that's all for tonight but I definitely have more in the works!
Coming Soon-
  • I'm going to have one of my items reviewed by another blogger, and there will be a give away!
  • An update on my journey to getting my "Boogie Catcher" patented and licensed.
  • A "My 1000 Markets Experience" update.
  • and last but not least "A Day at the Zoo"
Be sure to follow me and don't forget to join the mailing list in the box above for super secret specials!

Random Funny

Ok, so I like "bad" jokes, I don't know why but I really do. So I've decided to take a break from sewing for a minute to share one of these with you. You ready? Here it is- (roll over for the answer)

Yeah that's right I said it. Ok that was a nice little break, back to sewing!:)

Great Fabric Find at Nihon Matsuri

Today my husband and I went down to the Nihon Matsuri (Japanese Festival) here in Salt Lake and had a great time as usual. We ate some wonderful Japanese food, watched a Tea Ceremony, listened to some wonderful Koto players, ate some more yummy Japanese food, watched a Taiko performance and perused some wonderful vendors. All while getting a bit sun burned in the process lol. I took my camera with me but unfortunately I left the memory card at home in my computer. :( If you want to find out more about Nihon Matsuri check out their website at http://www.nihonmatsuri.org/ .

While I loved everything about today I have to say what I'm most happy about (besides spending a great day with my sweetie of course) was finding a great fabric shop based out of Arizona called Pat on the Back. It was tough to decide which fabric to buy today but I got this adorable fabric (I love lucky cats!).

I think it'll be great for some of my Boogie Catchers. You should absolutely check out their site at www.patontheback.net they really have a great assortment of fabrics. They have imported fabrics from Japan and Bali that are adorable and beautiful. Their prices are good too, I've been looking for Japanese fabric for a while now and a lot of it is pretty pricey but they have a larger variety that's in my price range. So be sure to check them out, and keep an eye out for items in my shop made from their fantastic fabrics!

Welcome to Cutie Threads!

Hello! I haven't blogged in a while. But I figured with my new project I'm working on that it was probably about time!

I've been pretty busy lately getting things ready for the launch of my new Etsy shop Cutie Threads. It will be full of wonderful handmade clothes, accessories, toys and more for kids, and awesome gear to make parents lives easier.

My favorite product so far is my Tissue Holder and Disposal with Hand Sanitizer
. I came up with the idea because I work for a daycare and I was always having to get up, find a tissue, wipe a nose, throw away the tissue, and wash my hands. Which is really a pain when you're trying to read or play with the kids. So I decided to make a handy way to have tissues on me, throw them away, and sanitize my hands without having to completely stop what I'm doing.

I've got my first one (first after some prototypes) posted to my etsy shop and I'll be posting more soon. I currently have a provisional patent for it and I'm looking to license it.

With all the crafting I've been doing, and all the business set up along with getting my provisional patent I've been busy but it's totally worth it! Well it's about time for me to hit the hay but if you know anyone who creates crafts that make a parents life easier let me know! I'm looking to do a feature in the near future.
